Former New England Stars and Future Prospects Hockey Camps participant Brian Bowen is making a name for himself in the USHL.

Bowen, who played for the Stars from 2008-2012 at the bantam and junior levels, is committed to the University of Vermont. He is currently playing for the Green Bay Gamblers, where he has 10 goals and 20 assists in 33 games so far this season.

"So far my year has been great, I started slow but since the first month, I've settled in," said Bowen. "The USHL is a great league and everything is just a little bit faster."

While the speed has been an adjustment, Bowen said there have been other adjustments he's had to make, too. The USHL is more demanding, he said.

"The main difference in this league is that you can't take any nights off, if you do, it can be a long night," said Bowen.

However, there are aspects of the league that certainly make up for it.

"The coolest aspect is that we play on average in front of 3,400 people at home games and can reach up to 6,000 or 7,000," he said. "My favorite moment so far was scoring my first USHL goal in Bloomington."

Bowen said his time with the Stars and Future Prospects was beneficial to his game.

"(Coaches) Dan Fontas and Darryl Green were great for me when I played there as a 14- and 15-year-old, they taught me a lot but I think most importantly, they gave me confidence in my game," he said. "The Stars program was some of the most fun I've had playing hockey. I always loved going to Skate 3, whether it was for practice or a game."
