The New England Stars mite major U8 team is off to a strong start, but that doesn't mean Coach Joe Miller won't continue to work the team hard.

"This year we are focused on team play and discipline in addition to skill development. Things are progressing nicely and the team has a few tournaments coming up which will allow for some off ice bonding," he said.

The team is one game into the season and the team won that game against the Concord Capitals, 6-2.

"We have a lot of talent on the team and when that talent is fully utilized, they are tough to beat and fun to watch," said Miller.

The team-first mentality is something the players have really latched onto, he said.

"They do a great job of supporting one another, both on and off the ice," said Miller. "We are working on their on-ice vision so that their passing game increases and creates more opportunities for the team."

The players have a willingness to learn from their mistakes and a strong drive to become better hockey players.

"Each player has strengths and weaknesses, but as a team they are learning how to cover for each other when mistakes are made," said Miller."

Miller is optimistic that the team will gel even more as the season progresses.

"I am hoping to see continued improvement in their skating and agility. In addition, we enjoy watching the camaraderie they have and continue to build," he said. "There were 7 returning players and 7 new players this season, but you would think these kids have known each other forever. It's important to have that in the locker room."
