"I wanted to create an environment that affords our youth athletes a lacrosse experience that was unlike any that they have been apart of," he said.
The Stars Lacrosse program will not play in a league immediately but instead offer some high level spring/summer skills clinics. The Stars Lacrosse program will also have late spring/ summer teams that practice weekly and play in 2 – 3 summer tournaments.
Wood has been a lacrosse player since high school. The sport has evolved over the last 20 years, he said, and is now growing so fast that it is important the players are taught proper skills so they can reach their highest potential in the sport.
"I went on to play in college and then to coach it," he said. "I love the speed, tradition and history of the game. When done properly there is an enormous amount of camaraderie that can be achieved with a team."
Wood said he and the lacrosse staff will train young athletes to compete hard and be a good teammate, and support them if they choose to continue their lacrosse career into college and beyond.
"While the speed of the game has certainly picked up the tradition remains that same. Our staff understands this and is ready to train and develop youth athletes into the next level players. Years ago a natural athlete could pick up a stick and keep up with the game. This is very rare now with the speed and skills required to be successful," he said.
