The following is a Q and A with U12 Premier Assistant Coach Eddie Wenzell.

Q: How is your team doing this season?

A: As a newly formed new Stars team we used a summer tournament away as an initial team bonding event for both players and parents. The start of the season was rather rough as we played a few of the top teams but we found our stride midseason and now can be competitive with the best.

Q: Where is your team in the standings?

A: We have slowly worked our way up to the middle of the pack in the standings.

Q: What are the bright spots of your team? What do they do well together? What are their strengths?

A: We have really been impressed on how the team has grown together. The players treat their teammates like family. They also continue to compete and battle in games that get out of reach. In practices they like to challenge each other to succeed.

Q: What are some things you are hoping comes together for them more as the season progresses?

A: Consistency is a goal going forward. As a confident group of players they believe they can succeed against any team now but sometimes the mental focus just isn’t there some mornings. It is cliché, but we need to get to the net quicker and burying the rebounds.

Q: Any other thoughts?

A: We are proud of everything the kids have accomplished so far this first season. It is also exciting to see that they all are setting their expectations high with regards to becoming better hockey players. We look to finish the season strong and hope to pick up another championship in our last tournament late February.
